Alphonse is the largest atoll in the Alphonse Group of Outern Islands, which also contains St Francois Atoll and Bijoutier island.
Accessed via a one hour, 400km light aircraft flight from Mahe, the main island of Alphonse has a beautiful resort popular with families and couples alike.
The island is home to more than 75 Aldabra giant tortoises and there are records of 130 bird species being seen there, including red footed boobies and magnificent frigatebirds.
First discovered in 1562, the islands were first used for the production of crops and coconuts but now bring delight to hundreds of delighted visitors.
