Villa Maya has a beautiful location outside Flores, nestled within the El Peten rainforest. The hotel has its own private reserve on the shores of Petenchel and Monifata lagoons where a wide variety of birds can be found as well flowers and trees.
Its location is just 15 minutes east of Santa Elena and the Mundo Maya International Airport and about an hour from the spectacular Mayan site of Tikal.
The 56 rooms at Villa Maya are arranged as 10 bungalows of two or three floors each with two rooms per storey, and 10 individual bungalows. All of the rooms are accessed via paths surrounded by beautiful gardens. The rooms are quite simple yet spacious and well furnished. All have private bathrooms with hot water showers and good water pressure. Air conditioning and ceiling fans keep the rooms cool, and there is a telephone should you need to make outside calls or contact reception. All rooms also have a balcony and many face the lake — a great place to read or simply sit and take in views of the jungle.
Villa Maya’s restaurant serves a varied menu of international and regional dishes and offers a BBQ on Sundays. In addition there is a bar-cafeteria and room service is also available.
Villa Maya offers a restaurant and deck overlooking the lake, room service, souvenir shop, two outdoor swimming pools for adults and children, an open-air gym, beautiful gardens, 15km of nature trails, free WiFi in public areas, bike rental, a refuge for the conservation and breeding of white-tail deer, scarlet macaw and peccary, a heliport, shuttle service and various tours.
At the nearby Mayan site of Tikal there are good chances of seeing many colourful bird species including keel billed toucan and crested guan around sunrise.
You can also hear howler monkeys at a distance and sometimes see them close to the lodge.
