Nicoya Peninsula
Tango Mar
A long-established resort which, having been built before restrictive rules came in, enjoys an unusually close beachfront location and a generous 250 acres, all facing the Pacific Ocean near Tambor in southern Nicoya peninsula. Tango Mar is extremely well run by its charming Belgian owner and her friendly efficient staff, the food is excellent and the bar serves delicious cocktails. Swimming is possible in the sea at low tide (high tide can be difficult), and there are three small pools from which to choose. The on-site stables offer enjoyable riding tours which include galloping along the beach. There is a nine-hole non-professional golf course, and easy trails through the dry tropical forest which is inhabited by howler monkeys and many bird species. Tamanduas (a kind of anteater) have been known to wander along the beach at night.
There is quite a mix of different accommodation categories, including beachfront rooms, wooden cabanas and individual villas set at the end of the property.
