Accommodation, Eastern Madagascar

Saha Forest Camp

A relatively new and friendly camp built into the side of a hillside overlooking rice paddies in Anjzorobe. Accommodation is in comfortable and tastefully decorated, tented cabins.

Wonderfully prepared Malagasy meals are taken at the restaurant with a wonderful vista over the forest. Temperatures may become quite cool, especially in the evening and early mornings. A range of activities are offered including forest walks in search of the local lemurs which include the black morph of indri, diademed sifaka and eastern woolly lemur. Chameleons, frogs and geckos are also abundant and the area offers oustanding birding with many endemic species present. Other activities on offer include village visits and a tour of the traditional farming practices.

Restaurant, private bathrooms with hot water, living area and terrace.

Local Wildlife

The black morph of the indri is a local speciality here, and other lemurs include the beautiful diademed sifaka, eastern woolly lemur and Goodman's mouse lemur. Chameleons, frogs and many geckos are also abundant and the birding is excellent with local specailities including Madagascar wood rail, Meller's duck, Madagascar snipe, grey emutail and the very rare slender billed flufftail.

Optional Activities

Forest treks, night walks, cultural tours and village visits.

We had a great holiday seeing and getting close to more wildlife than we’d imagined. The guides and wildlife guides were excellent and very knowledgeable. The accommodation and food was excellent and we were able to relax given how well everything was planned. Thank you!
