Little Makalolo is a traditional safari camp in the heart of Hwange National Park. It has direct access to the private Makalolo and Linkwasha conservation areas managed by Wilderness Safaris. This is a hugely diverse habitat. It encompasses a mosaic of teak woodlands and savannah grasslands on a vast bed of Kalahari sands. Seasonal diversity here ensures ever changing wildlife conditions too. Hence the reputation for superb wildlife viewing through the year.

The camp itself offers 6 tented units. All spacious and en-suite with indoor and outdoor showers. The rooms are linked to the communal living and dining areas by teak walkways. The camp includes a raised pool deck with a bar and breakfast area.

Herds of elephant and buffalo are regularly seen from the log-pile hide near Little Makalolo’s waterhole. Day and night game drives are available from camp. They offer regular viewing of lion, cheetah, African wild dog, spotted hyaena and a vast range of plains game. Leopard are resident in the concession.

Facilities

The camp's six traditional-style rooms – including a family unit – are spacious and en-suite, with indoor and outdoor showers. Teak walkways link the tents to the main living and dining areas which include an open fire deck. A raised pool deck, which also shelters the bar and breakfast area.

Local Wildlife

This diverse area is shared between desert-adapted and woodland species, ensuring large numbers of animals all year round – elephant, buffalo, sable, roan, giraffe, wildebeest, impala and even gemsbok.

Optional Activities

The Star Bed at Madison Pan is approximately a 15 minute drive from camp. Suitable for overnight stops (weather permitting).
