Jamtara Wilderness Camp

The camp is located in a rural setting close to the little used Jamtara Gate giving it privileged access to one of the quietest areas of the national park.  Influenced by many of the top African wildlife lodges the camp has just 12 luxury tents dotted amongst a forest of Arjuna trees with an ancient Banyan tree at its centre.

The tents are large and airy and the sides can be rolled up to be completely open to the elements.  If wanting to take this one stage further, staff can make up a bed on your veranda complete with mosquito net, quilt and hot water bottles to protect against the chilly winter nights.

The large attached bathrooms come with solid walls, canvas roof, flushing toilet and hot water showers. Meals are often taken outside under the huge banyan tree and there is a pleasant communal seating area and small swimming pool.

The lodge works closely with the local village who take great pride in their simple buildings and fields of corn and wheat.  Village visits are encouraged. Additionally, guests can book a night in the ‘Machaan’ (an outdoor bed built on a stilted canopy in the farmer’s land), for the opportunity to sleep under the stars and among the wildlife. The majority of the revenue from this goes back to the local farmer.
