Breezes Beach Club
Set on the beautiful white sand beach of Bwejuu – voted by Conde Nast Traveller as one of the top 30 island beaches of the world – Breezes Beach Club Hotel is a large but characterful, luxury Zanzibar retreat. Offshore there is good snorkelling and diving on the fringing coral reef (which limits swimming at low tide) and the interior of Zanzibar offers exotic spice plantations, old ruins, the rainforest reserve of Josani and the ancient city of Stone Town to explore.
The family-run hotel has seventy four colonial style rooms, each beautifully decorated with local wood and textiles. There are four room categories and all feature a telephone, air-conditioning and mosquito net. Most recently a large four-room private villa has been added especially for large families or groups.
There is a sizeable swimming pool, beach bar, restaurant and PADI dive centre. Other facilities include a TV room, floodlit tennis court, fitness centre and water sports centre, and Wi-Fi (charges apply) is available throughout the property. The hotel’s renowned Frangipani Spa offers some of the best massage treatments on the island.
The lush gardens attract many birds, butterflies and entertaining bush babies (galagos) visit at night to feed on unattended fruit.
Restaurant, bar, beach bar, lounge, TV room, swimming pool, Wi-Fi (charges apply), PADI dive centre, gym, tennis court, air-conditioning, telephone, mosquito net and laundry service.
Zanzibar bush babies are a common sighting in the gardens at night and a wide variety of birds and butterflies can be seen here during the day. Underwater there is a vast array of hard and soft corals, numerous reef fish, eels, reef sharks and green and hawksbill turtles.
Scuba diving, snorkelling and water sports.
Be careful not to leave fruit out on your balcony at night – the bush babies are sure to find it! The reef here gets completely exposed at low tide offering some good reef walking. If wishing to snorkel at low tide, walk a little way along the coast where you will find a few ‘cuts’ in the reef which still have water.
