Wattura Resort
A luxury, boutique resort especially suited to wellness retreats or families. Situated on Sri Lanka’s west coast, it is only a 45 minute drive from Colombo’s international airport, making it a most convenient location to stay at the beginning or end of your Sri Lankan trip. It has an excellent range of suites and villas, as well as a superb infinity-edge swimming pool overlooking the beach.
The resort sits on a spit of land, sandwiched between the Gin Oya river and Indian Ocean. Activities such as kayaking and boat excursions can be undertaken on the river, where a range of birds and other small wildlife can be spotted. Waikkal beach runs along this stretch of coastline, and the resort can arrange water sports such as kitesurfing and paddleboarding for you.
Within the resort itself there is also an impressive spa, with treatment rooms, cascading waterfalls, temperature-controlled hot and cold pool, relaxation areas and a tropical garden. The Resort’s restaurant, Pappali, serves superbly prepared local cuisine, fused with South Indian flavours. There is also a separate indoor bar and lounge with ocean views.

“It was a very good tour in every respect…Anyone fortunate enough to get [our guide] as their guide will have met an excellent ambassador for Sri Lanka. It was a perfect mix of culture and wildlife and overall a very good mix of hotels.
