Anantara Kalutara

Scroll

Bordered to the rear by a lagoon and front by the open Indian Ocean, the high quality, family friendly resort enjoys an enviably secluded location. Anantara offers the best of both worlds: luxurious accommodation within a stone’s throw of exciting Sri Lankan experiences. The hotel was one of the last projects undertaken by Sri Lanka’s pre-eminent architect, Geoffrey Bawa, and the resort therefore reflects his signature style of Tropical Modernism, with bright, breezy structures which mesh perfectly with the natural surroundings. Visit the resort’s Bawa library – modeled on the architects personal study – to bask in his designs whilst reading about his life and work.

The resort boasts three restaurants: Olu – offering all-day dining; Acquolina – featuring Italian cuisine; and Spice Traders – showcasing local and Asian menus, ensuring that all tastes will be catered for. The high quality food is complemented by the Upper Deck bar, serving local and international wines, beers and spirits. Tailored private dining can also be arranged.

Accommodation is in the form of rooms, villas or suites. The rooms vary based on position and view but are very similar in size, whilst sites are much larger and enjoy more privacy, and the one or two bedroom villas have their own private pools and lounge areas also. All rooms are decorated exquisitely and provide a bright, elegant and comfortable base for your stay.

Facilities

Facilities include 141 rooms, suites and pool villas; two outdoor swimming pools; yoga pavilion; kids’ and teens’ centre; gym; library; two shops; water sports centre; a full spa; three restaurants and a bar. All rooms are equipped with private balconies, ensuite bathrooms, modern conveniences and toiletries.

Optional Activities

Within the resort itself there are many activities to occupy you, whether it be yoga, relaxing by the pool, traditional cooking classes or water sports. The resort’s position in Kalutara makes it convenient to reach many of the local area’s attractions, so you could: take a tour of Galle fort; go whale watching in Mirissa; visit a tea plantation or Buddhist shrine; see the Kosguda turtle hatchery; go wildlife watching in the Sinharaja rainforest; visit nearby Richmond Castle or take a sunset cruise.
